We are pleased to have been commissioned to rebuild the organ in St Margaret’s Church, Lee, London. The instrument was built in 1927 by J.W. Walker & Sons, as the firm’s Op. 1563.
Tonal alterations were made in 1979 by Harrison & Harrison: the Large Open Diapason 8′ on the Great was replaced with a Mixture, and the Dulciana 8′ and Unda Maris 8′ on the Choir were replaced with a Nazard 2 2/3′ and Tierce 1 3/5′. Further work was undertaken by Harrison & Harrison in 1999, including re-leathering of reservoirs and restoration of unit chests.
In the forthcoming work, the soundboards and electro-pneumatic key actions are to be restored, along with all pipework and wind trunking. The Open Diapason No. 1 8′ will be returned to the Great, retaining the 1979 Mixture. A new transmission and piston capture system will be installed. Slider solenoids will be fitted. The console will also be refurbished, and all other parts of the organ cleaned and overhauled.
